What affects the taste of coffee?

The standard cup of coffee.

As we discovered, there is no standard for a cup of coffee. We surfed the Web in search for the ctandard cup parasmeters, but they are not available. Then we conducted a survey among coffee lovers, our friends and acquaintances. You can conduct such a survey in your office or while enjoying drinking coffee with friends.

The majority of the respondents came to the fact that a rigid standard for a cup of coffee just does not exist.

But сoncepts of standard for particular coffee drinks do exist, at least in our minds. About 67 % of respondents claimed that under such standards they understand:

                                · A glass of Latte 150ml
                                · A glass of Irish coffee 180ml
                                · A mug for Americano 180ml
                                · A mug for filter coffee 220ml

This information will make you think about many things. Now, you are beginning to understand the nuances of coffee drinks.
Take the case of espresso (see details on this website under the button HOW TO BREW?) and try to understand how many ml of the drink are in the cup of 60ml volume.
It turned out that every espresso coffee machine produces a different amount of drink.

One machine produces 30ml, another 40, also there can be 35, 50 or 55ml. The volume depends on settings of coffee machines, and it is barista's responsibility. We omit this topic since baristas' taste preferences vary, so they set up coffee machines according to their taste and qualifications.

                What do settings of coffee machines depend on?

         · Customers' preferences
         · The type of coffee machine (classic horn, automatic, pods or capsules type and so on)
         · The quality of the coffee beans (freshly roasted, Arabica, Robusta, or their mixture)
         · Quantity of produced coffee espresso elixir (30, 40 or 50ml)
         · Barista's taste preferences
         -Time of extraction (20, 24 or 30 seconds)
         · The quality of obtained espresso elixir (watery, thick, creamy or not)

So, now you can more or less exactly say what form the taste of your coffee cup. So, how can you pick your own taste? From the above, it turns out that, for example, your cup of coffee cappuccino may contain 30,40 or 50ml espresso elixir; 50,40  or 30ml of milk; and 30,40 or 50ml of froth . We do not give intermediate values which are most often present in practice.

We hope that after these explanations, you can see why in one coffee house coffee was delicious, but not in the other.

We think that all the material presented above will help you find the taste of your coffee. Experiment with brewing, and make sure to try the coffee blend of Arabica and Robusta beans.

Many people believe that the ratio 10-20 % of Robusta and 90-80 % of Arabica is the classic combination in espresso elixir preparation.

Our experience shows that Robusta does increase lathering while brewing and adds bitterness in the drink. However, it dramatically increases the caffeine content in the beverage as it is more than twice higher in Robusta than in Arabica. Such coffee at times is so exhilarating that you can hardly fall asleep, and doctors do not recommend coffee with a high content of caffeine.

Some baristas use a mix with a lot of Robusta to enlarge the foam content, so sometimes it reaches 30-50% or more. Some get addicted to such coffee, and they just rush into the coffee shop where, as it seems to them, the most delicious coffee is served. But the reality is that you just got addicted to coffee with a high content of caffeine. In the market, you can even find a mix with 80% of Robusta and 20% of Arabica. The price of such coffee blend is cheaper, since Robusta is much cheaper than Arabica .

So when you buy any coffee - ground or beans please watch carefully what you take. For your information, most manufacturers do not specify on the packages of ground coffee what types of coffee are included and their ratio. Therefore, the main criterion for coffee selection is the price. The higher the price is - the better the coffee. This can happen with packages of coffee beans. If you can see on coffee packages large inscriptions such as 'Espresso', then  in 90% it is the mixture of Robusta and Arabica. Look intently to understand what is their percentage in the mix and what kind of coffee suits you.

Moderation is needed in everything including in consumption of coffee. Doctors proved long time ago that drinking a couple of cups a day is not harmful, but rather enhances brain's function.
